EU pledges to $109.5m to Caricom

The European Union has pledged $109.5 million to help Caricom, the 15-nation Caribbean trade bloc improve its single-market trading system.

More than $61 million is designated to hire service industry experts, remove trade barriers and help Caricom upgrade its sanitation standards to meet EU import requirements for food items.

Caricom Secretary General Irwin LaRocque said late Wednesday that Belize and Haiti will receive special allocations to help them take greater advantage of free trade within the region and with Europe.
