Germany: Organic vegetable growers pull together

Vegetable growers in the German vegetable cultivation area Knoblauchsland in Franken have recently established a labour pool for organic vegetable growers. With this to want to meet the challenges of the market together and to form a strong network for regional cooperation.

Vegetable growers often meet the same problems and challenges, whether they are
engaged in conventional or organic cultivation. This is apart from price pressure by the trade and competition from low wage countries to the cultivation planning of the various vegetable varieties. In Knoblauchsland many small companies have been established which have a very large variety of production and sales methods. With the establishment of the labour pool Knoblauchsland will now face the challenges of the market together. Since the establishment of the working party on 20 March, eleven companies have already joined the working party. "We have created the basis to promote the organic cultivation in Knoblauchsland and to strengthen the entire area. Also it makes it easier for companies to change from conventional to organic cultivation. They will be guided," as per Michael Brückner, chairman of the vegetable growers association.
