UK: Huntapac 50% reduction in time spent on label checks

Huntapac, specialists in growing, packing and distributing a variety of organic and conventional vegetables, brassicas and salads to leading UK supermarkets, has witnessed a 50% reduction in time spent on label checks since implementing Greenlight Quality Control (QC) from Muddy Boots.

To help them maintain their position as a trusted supplier of quality produce, Huntapac identified a requirement to implement a more efficient quality control process within the business. Subsequently, Greenlight Quality Control, a mobile electronic quality assurance solution from Muddy Boots, was deployed to capture data on the go and produce a timely, accurate overview of the performance of the business.

The Greenlight QC technology from www.muddyboots.com, leaders in quality management solutions for sustainable food and farming, ensures consistency in the measurement of product quality attributes. The paperless mobile technology software captures and processes information at the point of input, delivering clear, concise and immediate results.

On an average week, Huntapac completes 1,800 label checks, which, using the traditional pen and paper method, would have taken approximately 60 hours to complete; 40 hours for the QC to validate the label information and a further 20 hours for the Print Room manager to verify the validation. Using Muddy Boots’ Greenlight QC software the amount of time spent on label checks has been reduced to 1 minute per check; a time saving of 50%.

Stephen Shields, Technical Manager at Huntapac, said the following;

“In addition to this significant time saving, we are now given greater transparency of quality control processes throughout the business, resulting in improved management efficiency. Traditionally, if produce was rejected, a full report would have to be generated and members of the management team would be individually contacted. This process would take time; there would be a delay in sharing the data and on busy days we were always playing catch-up. Therefore, complete visibility of the current business status was a real challenge.

“We can now instantly generate an inspection report, take pictures on the hand-held device of the produce in question and send the report straight to the management team and supplier. This instant alert has improved the communication both internally and with our suppliers and has allowed us to identify which areas of the business are working well and which areas need improving.”

Adrian Talbot, Senior Account Manager at Muddy Boots Software said;

“It has been a great experience working with Huntapac and they have fully embraced the software to drive continuous improvement within the business. When they first approached us over a year ago, there was a real drive to improve the efficiency of their quality control processes and take cost out of the business; these figures are evidence that they have been able to meet these objectives.

“They are now using the software for a high volume of checks, from intake to final dispatch, giving them a deeper visibility on the performance of quality within the business.”
