Germany: Decreasing fruit import

Since 2008 Germany has been importing less fruit each year. Data from the German Central Bureau of Statistics about trading with foreign countries show that this tendency could also not be stopped in 2011. The quantity of imported fruit could even for the first time in years be less than 5 million tons.

The German Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft (AMI) has made a prognosis on the basis of provisional figures about the foreign trade and estimates the final imported quantity to be 4.83 million tons. This means a decrease of 4%.
