Agricultural exports will grow about US$200 million

Honduras: Melon and watermelon exports might grow

An agreement signed between officials of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (SAG) and the Federation of Producers and Agricultural Exporters (FPX), seeks to increase by more than US$200 million exports of Asian vegetables, cantaloupe and watermelon.

In 2011, the agribusiness trade amounted to US$2,245.9 billion, accounting for 57.6% of the total exported and the agricultural sector reached US$632.6 million, according to the Central Bank of Honduras (BCH).



Products such as bananas, vegetables, melons and watermelons helped exports to register a growth of 24.6%.

Just in vegetables US$71.2 million was exported, indicating a 59% increase compared to 2010.
