The goal for this year is to boost the production of citrus in Victoria (Mexico), in order to take advantage of the rise in the fruit ton price for oranges, grapefruit, tangerines and lemons, informed the director of Rural Development in this locality Rodrigo Canales Perez.
He indicated that in Victoria there are over 250 citrus farmers in 18 of the 44 rural communities that make up the rural municipality, where the Navel orange, Valencia, mandarin, grapefruit and lemon are produced.
"Last month with the state government's support we delivered 7.2 tons of fertilizer foliar, between Victoria's citrus producers, as part of the support granted within the state program of drought and frosts during 2011."
He said that they have an area of more than 5,000 hectares of citrus in this region, so as to obtain a significant fruit production that is mainly marketed in the center of the country.
He also said that the difficult situation that is facing the citrus industry in countries like the United States has led to growing demand of the fruit and increases its price on the market.
