Van derLans International:
Europe: Demand for first New Zealand onions very good
Importer Van der Lans International received the first 12 containers of New Zealand onions on Friday 16 and Monday 19 March. "The quality of the onions is very good. The growing season in New Zealand went well" The first onions are mainly 'hand clipped' in order to be available for shipment earlier."
Van der Lans will receive New Zealand onions every week. At the moment still in containers, but in three weeks time the importer expects the first conventional delivery. "At the end of March the first onions from Tasmania are also expected. According to the first reports from the shippers in Tasmania the quality of the onions will be exceptionally good this season."
"The sales of the new harvest are actually better than expected. Despite the large stock of onions in Europe there is most certainly demand for New Zealand product" Jan tells. The first onions have all been sold already and there is actually good demand for size 35/50. Next week the first red onions from New Zealand will arrive; in short the new import season of onions from overseas has started!"
