"Eric Dierick: "Better season than last year"
South African plum season almost over
"The South African plum season is almost over" Eric Dierick of Beltran tells. "We still have some volumes, but next week the last plums will be shipped for us." According to the trader the season was better than last year. "The quality and the prices were good. Unfortunately there were not enough of the large sizes and for those the demand was the greatest." He mentions that the good quality is mainly thanks to the producers in that country. "They looked after the cultivation in the correct manner and supplied beautiful plums."
Eric mentions that Chinese fruit is also on the market already. "We do not have these in the assortment and we are not worried about it at the moment as far as sales are concerned. The prices of the South African plums have decreased somewhat towards the end of the season and are now round 10 euro for the better sizes."
Beltran is part of Group A.de Witte and is established in the import centre in Brussels. Important products are grapes and vegetables from Italy, In addition the complete fruit assortment from South Africa is being offered.
