Salanova audience favorite at Foodex in Tokyo
Convenience lettuce Salanova is eminently suitable for the Japanese market. Japan is known for the highly refined cuisine that attaches great importance to aesthetics, presentation, colour combinations and flavor. With its many small colourful baby leaves, that occur by removing the core, Salanova fits in perfectly.
Salanova story
The Salanova stand was a part of the Vegetable and Fruit Corner at Foodex and was visited very well by, amongst others, foodservice companies, retailers and the hotel industry. Rijk Zwaan manned the stand with two local partners, Takada Seed and Sumika Agritech. In the stand the visitors had the opportunity to come in direct contact with three Salanova growers, who told their Salanova story with lots of passion. Additionally salad cups with five different Salanova varieties were distributed. The visitors were very enthusiastic about this give-away; every day more than 500 cups were handed out.
Besides the enthusiastic reactions of the visitors, Salanova was also judged as excellent by an expert panel. Salanova achieved the maximum score on all the aspects; taste, looks/appearance, excitement level, healthiness and ‘whether you would share this concept on social media’.
‘‘We had the opportunity to make contact with several big retailers and many foodservice suppliers from the hospitality industry’’, says Jan Doldersum, Chain Manager Asia of Rijk Zwaan. “The sales of Salanova in Japan have been increased significantly in the past six months and at the end of the year we expect that Japan will be the main market of Asia for Salanova, before Malaysia, China and Thailand.’’
