Egypt: Global Fruits broadening Middle East markets

Global Fruits, an Egyptian producer and exporter since 2005, started exports to the Middle East in 2008. Shaimaa Emam, from the company said "it is a big market where we have seen good demand for our products."

Global Fruits export various fruit and vegetables to the region including citrus, strawberries, grapes as well as onions, potatoes and iceberg lettuce. The main counties supplied are Lebanon, U.A.E, Saudi Arabia and Iran where they sell to wholesalers under the Marow, Jana and Frida brands.

Volumes are down slightly this year compared to previous seasons, Shaimaa said this due to slow markets in the region, this is the case through the whole industry at the moment.

The company intends to increase exports to the region by entering counties such as Lybia, Qatar and Bahrain as well as Sudan. In fact exports to Lybia have already started as part of the program for support and development and reconstruction of the country and contracts are being signed for the 2012 grape season.

The recent uprisings in Egypt have of course affected the company, but Shaimaa explains, "we expect it to become more stable after the presidential elections in June 2012".

Global Fruit pride themselves of the high quality of their produce and by treating clients as partners and working towards long term relationships.
