Switzerland: Good apple sales in February

The quantity of apples in storage in Switzerland decreased by more than eight tons in February. The decrease in eating apples amounted to 8,595 tons in February. This is according to Swisscofel and the Swiss fruit association SOV, a strikingly high quantity. At the end of February in total 41,532 tons of apples were still in the Swiss storage places. That is 713 tons more than in 2011, but 777 tons less than in 2010. The most important varieties stored are Gala (13,170 tons) and Golden Delicious (11,176 tons).
 
The stock of pears stored at the end of February was still 5,012 tons. Almost half of this, 2225 tons, is of the variety Kaiser Alexander.
