Large supply of potatoes in Austria
The situation on the Austrian potato market has practically remained unchanged. The large supply meets the continuing sales at home. Sales of oversized potatoes via export are doing well, but further exports are somewhat quieter than previously.
This is amongst others, the result of favourable offers from France and Germany.
Grower's prices have hardly changed: nine to ten Euro/100 kgs. for middle sized potatoes and mostly only 2 Euro for excessively large potatoes. Potatoes with GlobalGap certification obtain at least 12 Euro/100 kgs. In the federal state Burgenland the new season will start in the next few days, when the first potatoes will be planted. In Lower Austria the new potato year will start this week-end.
Germany
The German potato market is presently characterized by a quiet demand and a growing restlessness amongst the dealers. Potato storage places have potatoes, which are no longer fit for processing at their disposal, because the quality is no longer up to standard. These potatoes can only be used for fodder or in bio-gas installations. Furthermore, more and more potatoes enter the market from stores. The growers price level remains stable in most cases. The first trading chains already prefer French potatoes from storage.
