It's often said these days that frozen fruit and vegetables are healthy. "Vitamins and minerals are largely better kept than in fresh vegetables", says Hoppe. The vegetables from the supermarket have had a long transport journey, before they arrive at the customer. Frozen vegetables, on the other hand, are frozen right after harvest. The offered ready meals are also healthy. The producers have adjusted to the wishes of the consumers, who want fresh products and as little additives as possible.
Hoppe advises the consumer to place the frozen food in the shopping bag last, or to use a cooling bag. When home the products should be put straight in the freezer. The use-by date is dependent on the product concerned. "For a pizza it depends on the toppings", the food expert explains. Frozen fruits and vegetables can be kept between six and twelve months.
