Heng Feng increase Middle East market share

Chinese import and export company, Heng Feng has been exporting to the Middle East since 2005 when exports to this area started. The most widely used port is Dubai, due to its location and ease of distribution to surrounding countries.

Heng Feng exports various apple and pear varieties to the Middle East as well as citrus, garlic, onion, ginger, carrot, potato, chestnuts. The produce is sold in many countries including, Kuwait, UAE, Saudi Arab, Yemen, Qatar, Lebanon, Israel, Egypt and Algeria.

Vivien Li from Heng Feng says the garlic price is variable at the moment, it has come down compared the record highs seen in the last years, but is slightly higher at the moment due speculators inflating the price again. She explains that it is difficult to predict the price of garlic as there are no accurate records of planted area and information is biased depending on who you speak to.

Chinese garlic has a big demand in the Middle East, Heng Feng exported 15,000 tons in the last two years and plan to increase this by 30% this year. The company is also planning to offer more processed garlic products such as dehydrated garlic to the Middle Eastern markets.

The recent uprisings in the Middle East have not affected trade with the Middle East according to Vivien.

As an exporter, Vivien of course would like a steady garlic price, but this is not to be. "There is no doubt about the quality of the garlic, it is very good. The Chinese apple and pear as well as ginger and carrot prices are relatively stable, but may decline as the new seasons begin".

"We mainly sell to wholesalers in the Middle East, but some customers are also the suppliers for supermarkets in their country. We plan to expand our market to not only Gulf countries but also North African countries like Algerian, Libya, Morocco, Tunis, Sudan, etc," adds Vivien.
