Spain: Molinense offers wide range and innovative approach

The concept of Molinense producciones Naturales, emerged from the ideas of a few local farmers in the area of Murcia, south eastern Spain. The growers wanted to ensure that their produce was commercialised and effectively marketed, at the same time as improving their social and economic environment.

This was over 20 years ago and, since then, the company has grown into a large, well established, top quality producer of citrus, grapes and stone fruit, with over 2,100ha of dedicated agricultural land. It has become one of the premier Spanish producers of each of these products groups.

Molinense enjoys a strong brand image. The image is backed up by its farm and production facilities, all of which have benefited from ongoing investment in the latest equipment and technology.

The company markets its products under the brand names “Chiripa” and “Molinense.”

To ensure freshness of produce all the farms are located within a maximum of 15 km from the packing station. Due to this proximity, the company is able to guarantee the harvesting of the products at the optimal time and have them packaged and sent to the customer in the freshest possible condition.

The capacity of the company's installations are as follows:

Warehouse area: 20,556 m2
Capacity of cold storage rooms: 17,500m3
Loading area: 248 m2
storage and packaging area: 4,204m2

The company is committed to quality and operates to a set of high standards and accreditation, involving the quality of their produce, the reduction of the environmental impact their operations have and food safety. Accreditation they have achieved includes Tesco Nurture, Global GAP, BRC (UK), IFS (Germany) and ISO14001. All growers involved in operations are required to follow these standards.

The company's citrus is supplied throughout the winter and, from their own lands they have the potential to produce around 30,000 tonnes of tangerines, oranges, lemons and grapefruit.

As well as citrus the company supplies nectarines (from April to July), peaches (April to June), apricots (April to August), plums (may to July), table grapes (July to October) and pears (July).

The availability of apricots is brought forward thanks to the cultivation of the Colorado, Mogador and Mirandela varieties, available from the last week of April.

The company provide a wide range of varieties in each of the groups they sell, including 6 different plums and as many as 21 different apricot varieties, 17 peaches, 7 flat peaches and 18 different nectarines.

The company has a new range of plums and nectarines available, all of which display a similar set of appealing characteristics - free of breaks and with intense colouration.

Amongst the new peach varieties are EXTREME - intensely coloured and with a high sugar content (12-14 brix).

The company exports their produce to retailers across Europe, including the UK, Germany, France, Scandinavia, east and central Europe, the Arab states and Canada.
