Good demand Israel-peppers, Russia biggest client

Sales of peppers from Israel are going well. "Up to last week we had quite a few delays because of the weather in Koper (Slovenia), but at the moment the supply is good" Frank Mosterd of Gilad Dessert Produce tells. "The cultivation conditions in Israel are good with relatively cold nights and excellent weather during the day and as a result the peppers are of first rate quality. I expect that we will be able to offer Israeli peppers till at least the middle of April."

Prices of the Israeli-peppers are consequently at a reasonable level. Yellow peppers have a higher price than red ones.

"There is hardly any talk about Spanish peppers any more. Also the Scandinavian clients have changed to Israel-peppers" Frank tells. Gilad market from the Netherlands the peppers of about 75 growers in the Arava Valley. "We ourselves have very few quality problems, but peppers from other growing areas than the Arava Valley have these problems, but that is really dependent on the cultivation areas, because their seasons are also different."

"Russia buys most of the peppers at the moment." The International Women's Day on 8 March causes quite a bit of extra demand. It is striking this year that for organic peppers it is difficult as far as prices are concerned. The prices are continually at the same or below the level of conventional peppers, whilst the price should be higher" the importer tells. "I am very positive about the next few weeks and I do not see any reason why the market should collapse."
