"Yellow melons in net exceptionally durable"

Saphir has been the European distributor for many years of yellow melons in nets from the Brazilian melon producer Itaueira. "We sell the Yellow Honeydew melon of Itaueira of the hallmark REI. At Itaueira the melons are left on the plant for a longer period and as a result the brix content is higher (12-14) and they are therefore sweeter. The yellow melons can without problems be kept for a few weeks and that is for a ready-to-eat-melon quite exceptional" Pieter Leenheer tells.

"Because Itaueira have orchards in three different provinces we are in a position to supply melons all year round. From August to February in Ceará, from February till May in Bahia and from May to August in Piauí", Pieter sums up. The melons from

Ceará and Bahia are for export. Melons from Piauí we do not use, because then we have sufficient Spanish melons and it is not necessary to import melons from overseas."

The yellow melons from Itaueira are winning position fast on the European market. "Our Brazilian grower has applied for a patent on this net packing. In this way everybody will recognize these melons in net, which are different from others on the basis of taste, durability and presentation" the importer from Ridderkerk concludes.
