Spain: Price drop for large cucumber and Spanish courgette

Almería: During the last seven days some changes were seen in prices for horticultural products. Origin markets in Almería registered drops on quotes for large cucumber and courgette, mainly due to competition from countries such as The Netherlands and Morocco.

On the other hand, the last peppers that were sold kept their high prices. Even so, tomato raised its sale value after some weeks of moderate prices.

High cucumber prices dropped in the last week. As the Dutch production reaches the European market the quotations are reflecting it, as they vary between 0.75 and 0.50 Euro per kilo. The French cucumber is quoted between 0.65 and 0.50 Euro per kilo and the Spanish one has a first price of 0.70 and ends at 0.52 Euro per kilo. This vegetable is affected by the competition of Moroccan exports, being one of the products that lost the most on prices.

With regards to tomatoes, in all varieties, there are increases being registered in quotations. Tomato bunches vary between 0.80 and 0.70Euro; large tomato has a first cut at 0.72 Euro and ends at 0.65 Euro; tomato flat red quotes between 0.45 and 0.50 Euro and sweet tomato increased up to 1.20 Euro in the first cut and ends in auctions around the 0.80 Euro per kilo.

Pepper still keeps the high quotations from the previous weeks, mainly due to a reduction in offer in the market of Almería. Green pepper lamuyo is at 1.35 Euro to 1.10 Euro. California red quotes between 1.25 Euro and 1.10 Euro; California green varies between 0.86 and 0.75 Euro and California yellow went up to between 2.50 and 1.90 Euro per kilo. This last one is the most demanded for the tricolor packs, a reason why the price is up, since production area was considerably reduced on this campaign.

The Italian pepper keeps its price from 0.95 to 0.70 Euro per kilo. Eggplant keeps similar prices to the ones from last week. Large eggplant has a first price of 0.65 Euro and the last cuts at 0.50 Euro while the striped one varies between 1.70 and 0.90 Euro per kilo.

Green beans keep with high prices, but not as high as in previous weeks. Wide perona beans quote between 3.50 and 3.15 Euro and strike beans vary between 3.70 and 2.00 Euro, according to agronotícias.
