The company Produce & Packaging, Belgium have since 2004 specialised in growing, importing, packing and marketing of babyleafs, fresh herbs and sea vegetables. "We supply all our products all year round" the owner Danny van Loveren tells. "Since the start of the company herbs have been in the assortment. Babyleafs followed quickly together with rucola and spinach. Recently we grew fast as a company and have 15 people employed full time. During high season we add about 6 seasonal workers."
Own area 25 HA
Danny mentions that the common leafy spinach experienced a fast growth over the last few years. "This is together with rucola one of the main products we supply at the moment. Produce & Packaging have their own area of 25 HA, on which various plants are grown. The most important are spinach, rucola and babyleafs. For herbs we only produce parsley and flat parsley ourselves. The last mentioned products were added recently. Furthermore we cooperate with a number of growers to spread the risk and to guarantee continuity."
In the winter months we import from various countries. "Herbs come from Israel all year round, except the parsley, which we grow ourselves. In winter this comes from Spain and in summer we sometimes supplement with German product. Part of the herbs also comes from Kenya and India."
"The sea vegetables are mainly imported from countries which are carefully subjected to the required specifications. Pruduce&Packaging are one of the larger Belgian suppliers of these products. "We feel it is important to offer surplus value to our clients. By growing a large part of the products ourselves and by the direct contact with our suppliers we try to make the lines as short as possible. We supply day-fresh trade."
Cultivation and packing go hand in hand
"We have a special packing department, the owner mentions. "From the start we paid attention to the total picture: to supply a fresh product including packing, from seed to final product. As already mentioned in the company name: cultivation and packing go hand in hand at Produce&Packaging. The entrepreneur is positive about the new year. "We have focussed on quality and packing the past year and want to continue along this line. Daily working hard in servicing, continuity of supply and quality put us apart in the market."
