EU: International Paper to build new factory in Madrid

International Paper announced its plans to construct a new carton packaging factory in Villalbilla, in order to strengthen its position in Spain, the fourth biggest market for corrugated carton packages in Europe. The new factory is to replace the present one rented in Alcalá and will take charge of production while improving capacity. It's the first new factory of International Paper for the European, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region in almost two decades.

"This project took some years of preparation as it means an important investment and strengthening of International Paper with the Spanish market and the EMEA", expressed Greg Gibson, vice-president and general director of International Paper in EMEA, adding: "The construction of the new plant in Villalbilla will allow us to keep our position in the market, after the contract for the present factory ends. At the same time, it will improve our capacity and will be a platform to grow to new markets and profitable areas".

International Paper signed yesterday a contract to buy a 60,000 square meters parcel in Villalbilla, some 10 km away from the present factory in Alcalá. Construction works will start during the second half of 2012 and they expect to start working at full boost by the Summer of 2013. The new plant will be equipped with more modern machinery to keep offering clients trays and corrugated carton boxes which satisfy their strict quality and hygiene requirements. The investment amount wasn't revealed.

"It's an inspiring investment for the future of our clients, our business and our employees, as it will allow us to offer more quality and better service to our clients in a modern, viable and low cost platform", ended Greg Gibson.
