Ecuador: International price for exotic fruit remained stable

The Ecuadorian company Z&K (Hernan Zaldumbide) has been dedicated to the export of exotic fruits since 1992. Its main exports are dragon fruit, tree tomato, kiwano and sweet cucumber. All products are exported throughout the year, except for kiwano, which is exported only from February to August.

Z&K's main agricultural export markets are the U.S., Canada and Holland. "We would like to find more buyers in the U.S., EU, Russia and the Caribbean Islands," says Hernan Zaldumbide, Z&K's owner.

As for the climate, Zaldumbide assures "this winter has been quite moderate that is why plantations and production have not been affected, we have taken every precaution to avoid any drawbacks."

International prices for exotic fruit, according to Hernan Zaldumbide, have remained stable and are expected to remain at the same level in the short term.
"What has increased has been the air freight due to rising fuel prices. It is difficult to foresee in a medium-term the development of prices because of the economic crisis affecting some European countries." concludes the director of the Ecuadorian exports company, Z&K.
