UK: iButton gives insurance in the cold chain

Fairbridge Technologies is a leading distributor of asset management and temperature monitoring products targeting OEM and End User solutions.

The company provide supply-chain visibility solutions for the monitoring, tracking and analysis of products in transit, offering customers realistic and measurable data to fine-tune processes and gain better control over product distribution and storage.

The Maxim iButtons are widely used in the fresh produce industry along with ColdChain Thermodynamics Software, these small devices log the temperature of fruit and vegetables during the whole supply chain – from farm to folk. The data can be downloaded at any stage in the supply chain to check for temperature changes and can pin point exactly when a change took place, how much and for how long. ColdChain Thermodynamics software allows the user to scrutinize temperature logs in table or graph form, save PDF files and set up automated reporting.

This kind of information is essential for exporters/importers to identify any weak points in the supply chain and also if the produce is destroyed this data will stand up in court as proof of liability.

Tom Harrington, Sales Executive at Fairbridge Technologies, "It is a sort of insurance policy, if you have the ability to pin point the exact moment a temperature threshold is breached then you know who or what to blame"
Tom goes on to say that it can also protect growers from claims made by the retailers if produce is not found to be at the required quality.

The Maximum iButton is re-usable and can be used for 3-5 years at a very small investment of around $20.

Fairbridge Technologies' products are being used by many well know companies such as Capespan and Total Produce. The company has offices in South Africa as well as the UK, with representatives in The Netherlands and Norway.
