Aldi invests billions in its shops

The Aldi group is investing a few billion in its shops at home and abroad. Aldi Nord wants to spend around 3 billion Euro on modernising its shops. The company also wants to bring high value articles such as delicacies into the assortment. Aldi Süd is mainly investing in the US and Australia.

Aldi Nord has started activity in Belgium. Here multiple shops were reopened. The shops have a much more elegant appearance than before. In Germany the 2509 Aldi Nord shops will modernised or replaced by new shops. The shops will also have ATMs just like Aldi Süd.

At Aldi Süd, where the shops and assortment were a lot more attractive than those at Aldi Nord, the focus will be on the international extension. They won't extend to new countries, but develop the shop network in countries like the US and Australia.

Expansion to markets such as Croatia and Slovakia was cancelled due to lacking legal certainty. Extension to New Zealand was also stopped due to low population density.
