week 6-2012
Chile harvest report: table grape, nectarine, plum, pear and apple
Table grape: At Thompson Seedless, a raise in harvested amounts in Aconcagua Valley was noticed, starting the harvest peak in such region. In the Metropolitan Regions and Libertador Bernardo O'Higgins, the harvests are just starting, as the more steady and important harvests are programmed for week 7. As for quality and condition, this week the sizes harvested are mainly L and XL, being a fast paced harvest in general, despite some care to avoid the harvest of bunches that are still not ripe.
Nectarines: This week a peak in the yellow nectarine harvest occurred, with the recollection of important varieties like August Red, August Fire and Super August. For the coming weeks an important drop in harvest amounts is expected, since the harvested varieties will not have that important participation in Chile's total.
Plum: By the end of the week the harvest of the bigger amounts of Larry Anne will be over in Chile. The proportion of small sizes is greater than expected. Despite this, the yield was close to what was expected, thanks to a good general production.
Pear: This week the varieties Packham's, Beurre Bosc and D'Anjou were mainly harvested between the Metropolitan Regions and Maule. As with other species, the start of the harvest for the several varieties of pear is going fast due to weather conditions.
Apple: About 10 days early, in relation to the previous season, the harvest of apple in the regions of Libertador Bernardo O'Higgins and Maule is taking place. But the harvesting is much more concentrated due to the fast pace of fruit to ripen.
