Spain: Price increase iceberg lettuce

In Spain iceberg lettuce has been damaged by frost. This has become very clear at the moment in the dealings in the market. According to information supplied by the German Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft (AMI) the German market, as expected, clearly has a smaller supply available in week 7.

Apart from deliveries as a result of supply commitments, only a small supply of iceberg lettuce is available for the free trade. As a result the price in the day-trade increased abruptly. At wholesalers the price can already be more than 10 Euro for a box of 10 items.

The shortage of supply will not be solved in the short term and therefore prices will probably not fluctuate.
