"Good prices, but lack of sales"

Limited supply and sales of peppers and Canary Island tomatoes

The supply of vegetables from Israel and the Canary Islands is limited because of the cold weather of the last few weeks. The prices of vegetables are therefore at a good level, but the side effect of the cold weather is, according to Jan-Willem Tolhoek, a Dutch trader, that sales are more difficult.

Canary Island tomatoes

"The market for Canary Island tomatoes is reasonable. Overall, Europe is short of tomatoes and also from the Canary Islands the volumes are not very large" Jan-Willem says. "Sales are rather quiet, although a price level of 5/6 Euro is acceptable. I expect, however, that trading will improve since temperatures are also somewhat higher."

Peppers

Mundo Fresh import peppers from Israel and Spain, but that supply is also limited. "The last few weeks peppers were reasonably expensive, although there were some changes as well. There are some Dutch peppers on the market and as a result the price of the green ones is only about 5/6 Euro. The price of the red pepper is about 8/9 Euro and the orange and yellow peppers even cost 10 Euro."

"Also the prices of cucumbers, aubergines and courgettes are about 8 Euro. Prices are not the problem at the moment, but it is hoped that sales will improve" the importer concludes.
