Havecon North America Inc building 5.5 HA for Brabant Canadian
When in 2011 Havecon started talking to Guido van het Hof, general manager of Great Northern Hydroponics, he already had a clear image of his own glasshouse. It was a good conversation, because he knows what he is talking about and is a pleasant person to talk to.
This Canadian, originally from the province of Brabant, in the Netherlands, trusted Havecon to build his new production glasshouse of 5.5 HA in Kingsville and to install the double screen at the same time. A good order for Havecon in the new sales market in Canada/North America. It became clear quickly that Havecon have a future in this area and therefore Havecon North America Inc. was established in Kingsville, Ontario. In this way the company can act 'semi-locally' with complete assistance from Bleiswijk.
Henk Verbakel and Patrick Voortman (of JV Energy Solutions) in the glasshouse of Great Northern. Patrick is together with Jan Voshol
owner of JV.
Together they are responsible for heating, electricity, water and the other
additional items; Havecon cooperates with this company in order to supply
the customer with a turn-key project. The fact that Patrick lives in Canada
makes working together very nice as both of us are represented locally.
The specification of the glasshouse of Great Northern is as follows:
gutter height 7 metres, a white coated substructure, glass with 90% light penetration, railings of 9 metres (because of lighting) and a glass size of
2405 x 1125 mm. This may well be called unique in this area. It is even the first glasshouse with lights in a wide area!
Guido van he Hof said, "Havecon staff build a good glasshouse. I saw this in the Netherlands. When we agreed to use their product my decision was based on various factors: the quality of the glasshouse and the cover, the match with the people behind the company, the impact shown by these people and last but not least because of the far-reaching cooperation with JV Energy from Kingsville, which took care of the lighting, heating and electricity."
A newly-built glasshouse is never without problems. Immediately when it became apparent that the local sub-contractor would not be able to finish in time, Havecon supplied people and material to hand over the glasshouse and screen in time. A tremendous amount of work was done and the young plants were, as agreed, in the glasshouse on 18 December. A lot of positive comments were received from growers in the Kingsville/Leamington areas and the new glasshouse has been called a showcase. Great Northern is proud of the finished end-product and will grow tomatoes there with pleasure for many years to come."
