Between 2005 and 2011 fresh grape exports showed an average annual growth rate of 43.7%, from USD$33.9 million to USD$299 million. These results were made possible by higher shipments to the USA (42.5% average annual increase between 2005 and 2011), the Netherlands (52.4%) and Hong Kong (23.4%), countries which in turn are the main markets of the Peruvian grape. Other destination countries that are becoming more important are Russia (161.9%) and China (226.4%). The diversification of export markets developed between 2005 and 2011, has allowed the number of countries that regularly export grape to rise from 25 to 51. It is estimated that by the end of 2012, fresh grape exports will increase 24% up to USD$370.7 million.
The U.S. remains the largest market for grape exports, due to the strong consumer preference, which has placed grapes in fourth place among the most popular fruit, second only to oranges, apples and bananas. The annual per capita consumption amounts to 7.9 kg grapes
