Banana ripening company back to Duisburg-Kaszlerfeld
In the German Kaßlerfeld about 3 million Euro has been set aside for the building of a banana ripening establishment. It is striking that Univeg from Bremen are the principals, while this company only two years ago closed their establishment in Kaszlerfeld. At that time around 200 employees lost their jobs.
The building application of Univeg has been approved in the meantime and building of the ripening rooms and cold stores in the already existing hall can start. The building is in the neighbourhood of the Groszmarkt in Duisburg-Kaszlerfeld.
The German trade union Verdi is completely surprised by the return of Univeg to Kaszlerfeld. In 2010 Verdi attended to the struggle of the employees and the works council for a social plan. During the summer of 2010 the employees of the Univeg establishment in Kaszlerfeld demonstrated in the streets a number of times in order to stand up for the rights of the employees. Univeg attributed the decrease in the number of jobs to the fact that wholesaler Metro had ended cooperation.
With a turnover of about 1 billion Euro and about 1000 employees Univeg belongs to the most important companies in the area of the fruit and vegetable trade in Germany and Austria. The head office is in Bremen and the company was established in 1902.
