Freshuelva denounces the sale of Moroccan strawberry with Spanish labeling

False strawberry labeling is reported

Freshuelva found out that Moroccan employers are beelining their strawberries, as if they were produced in Huelva. The president of the Huelva´s Association of Strawberry Producers and Exporters, Alberto Garrocho, explained yesterday that the producers from Huelva were the ones who noticed this since that variety of strawberries are not produced in Spain.

Garrocho highlighted the commitment of President of Andalucia´s Board, José Antonio Griñan, to control strawberries that are coming to supermarkets after Freshuelva pointed out its concern about the unfair competition on Morocco´s side.

The strawberry association president stressed the need to control this type of action and asked the EU to demand that the Moroccan products meet the same standards of traceability as Europeans ones.

The province of Huelva accounts for 94% of Spanish strawberry production. Most of the export, 85%, goes to France and Germany, although the are opening new markets such as Dubai, Malaysia, Singapore and Russia.
