"Slow melon market because of large supply from Brazil"

"Melons "to love" at Levarht"

The first watermelons and yellow melons from Costa Rica have arrived again at Levarht. The watermelons are of the variety Quetzali. "Roundabout week seven we expect the Sangria, Mickey Lee, Seedless and Mini Seedless watermelons and Piel de Sapo's" Frank Levarht says. "The melons are first class and the brix is good, because of the perfect weather in Costa Rica. In short "melons to love."

Levarht have been a large importer of Costa Rican melons for years. The melons are marketed under the hallmark Sweet Kiss and are all GlobalGap & Tesco Nurture certified. The boxes in which the products are being supplied are always plastisized. The importer mentions that because of the weather conditions in Costa Rica, two areas are being worked. "These are the areas Parrita and Guanacaste. At the moment the weather in Costa Rica is very good and therefore production as well."

Levarht have shares or own cultivation companies all over the world. "We think it is important to have good relationships with the growers. Therefore we focus on a still more intensive cooperation."

The importer expects to receive melons till the beginning of May. "At the moment the melon market is slow, because many volumes are still arriving from Brazil as a result of the good weather. Last year this was a different story, then the weather in Brazil was bad and not much arrived."
