Sicily: Truck drivers' strike or not a total loss for oranges

after reading a FreshPlaza article about the effects of the truck drivers' strike in Italy, the Sicilian citrus producer Vincenzo pointed out the current market situation.

"I grow Tarocco oranges and the marketing scenario, before and after the strike, is unchanged. If before the producer price was EUR 0.10 per kilo, after the truck blockade it fell even lower to EUR 0.08 per kilo. I want to underline that the cost of production for oranges is about EUR 0.15 per kilo!" Vincenzo says.

"As if this was not enough, I lost my produce due to the natural fall of fruit from trees because nobody harvested during the strike. Personally, I lost three truck of oranges: they are now on the ground, under the trees". At a glance, a total loss!
