Turnover growth of Aldi Nord at a standstill

The increase in turnover at Aldi Nord was limited to a mere 0.2% in 2010. The result is better than predicted by market researchers at Lebensmittelzeitung, the German retail news site. Researchers originally expected a considerable decrease. The turnover amounted to more than 9.9 billion Euro, slightly more than in 2009.

The small increase in turnover cannot conceal the fact that there are large differences between the 35 regional companies. In more than half the turnover decreased. Lebensmittelzeitung is of the opinion that there could be a connection between this and the many rounds of decreasing prices.

The profit of Aldi Nord increased by 19% compared to 2009 and amounted to 344 million Euro. Aldi Süd appears to end at an increase in turnover of about 2% and a stabilisation of the profit for the year 2009. Lebensmittelzeiting announces that not all Aldi Süd figures have been published as yet.
