Argentina: Pear quality affected by ash

Damage in the fruit's skin is one of the main problems for pear quality this year. In addition to common factors, volcanic ash is also a reason for a drop in quality.

One of the causes for such damages in the pear is the friction during harvesting, transportation, packaging and/or commercialization.

This year, the volcanic ash affecting the region represents a significant rise in the amount of adhering particles on the fruit's surface and other materials, much more than usual.

Yesterday, this information was analysed in the meeting about the Regional Program for Ripeness, in the Experimental Station Alto Valle from INTA.
