According to the market report prepared by Chilean Walnut Commission, exports between January and December of 2011, were 34,501 tons. Shelled nuts amounted to a total of 17,058 tons, while nuts without shell totalled 17,443 tons.
The main destination was Turkey, 28% of the volume shipped was exported to that market: 9,537 tons of shelled nuts and 245 tons of nuts without shell. With this, Brazil has absorbed during 2011, 19% of Chilean exports, 1,488 tons of shelled nuts and 5002 tons of nuts without shells.
1,580 tons of shelled nuts and 1,923 nuts without shell were exported to Italy, reaching a total of 3,502 tons, 10% of exports in 2011.
One of the great growths of 2011, were exports to the UAE. A total of 3,232 tons were sent there, consisting of 2,906 tons of shelled nuts and 326 tons without, this destination represented 9% of the Chile nut exports in 2011.
