AU: Potato prices down by more than 50 per cent

The potato harvest in Victoria's west Gippsland has begun with low prices for growers.
A year ago, west Gippsland growers were receiving up to $670 per tonne for potatoes.
Mirboo North potato farmer and merchant Tony Commaudo says this week it was $300 per tonne.

"Demand is very slow, I'd say dead really at the moment," he says.
"There has been a lot of overlap from other areas, Hillston potatoes are still out there at the moment and there's still a little bit of Atherton potatoes crossing over into our season."
