US (CA): SolarMax Technology powers vegetable farm

Felix Chac Chuo Farms Inc. got a power boost from SolarMax Technology Inc. recently when it switched on its first 300 kW solar power system. "The 1,250 panel installation -- which is equivalent to half the size of a football field -- is a ground mounted system we turned on December 31," said David Hsu, SolarMax Technology president. "They are now considering installing another system at another Felix Chac Chuo Farms location."

In business for 30 years, Felix Chac Chuo Farms is an Asian vegetables grower located in Thermal, CA. The farm grows its vegetables "under cover" rather than out in the sun. "The owners of Felix Chac Chuo Farms wanted to go green and become energy independent," said Guillermo Santomauro, SolarMax director of sales. "The 22,500-square-foot system will cover 99 percent of their total energy needs."

SolarMax power systems can reduce 7,453 tons of CO2 green house gas emissions which is the same as driving 25.2 million miles in a small car, flying 15.4 million miles in an airplane or planting 298,132 trees. SolarMax Technology has installed numerous commercial solar power systems including a 70,000-square-foot solar panel rooftop system for Microdyne Plastics Inc. in Colton and a 1,441 photovoltaic solar panel array for Broadview: A Christian Science Nursing Facility in Los Angeles. The Broadview installation will reduce CO2 emissions by 6,400 tons over 25 years and provide 93 percent of the facility's electrical needs.
