Coop increase in turnover +38.9%

At the check-outs of the Coop supermarkets the chain made a turnover of Sw.Francs 11 billion, 2.6% less than in 2010. The reason for this decrease in turnover is the decreased prices of more than 4,500 articles, as mentioned by the Coop. The negative inflation of the entire assortment amounted to 3.2%. Coop have in total million instituted decreases to the value of about 250 million Sw.Francs. Especially the prices of the Coop's own brand articles were decreased.
 
The new manager of Coop, Joos Sutter, does not think that the retail trade will have an easy year. But he does not want to complain. "Clients are loyal" he says. More and more the Coop consequently goes for organic products and sustainability. In this area Sutter still sees possibilities for growth. According to Coop the demand for organic products is still developing 'in a positive way'. Sales of Coop's budget brand Prix Garantie decreased slightly, however.
 
The Coop group at the end of December 2011 consisted of 816 mega stores and supermarkets of various sizes. The total selling area increased by 0,5% in 2011.

The Coop group reports a total turnover of about 28 billion Sw.Francs. That is 38.9% more than in 2010. However, this increase is mainly the result of the complete take-over of the European wholesale group Transgourmet.
