less volumes available
Peruvian mango season started at AJB's Fruitbox
AJB's Fruitbox have shipped the first mangoes from Peru, which will arrive this week. "The export of Peruvian mangoes will be completely different this season from the past years" Andre Boon mentions. "In the first place the export started 3 to 4 weeks later and the volumes compared to last year will be a maximum of 50%.
He tells, that in first instance it was believed that the news from Peru was exaggerated, that more would be exported than mentioned in October and November. "Taking into consideration the delayed ripening of the fruit and inspection in many orchards, we will probably have to accept that effectively only half will be available."
Last year worldwide about 6500 containers with mangoes from Peru were shipped. This season the total to be exported is estimated at 3,000 containers. "Last year we had a reasonable supply of Brazilian mangoes till the end of January, but also there the export has been stopped" Andre adds.
The demand for Peruvian mangoes from the United States is larger this year as well
also because of the lesser quality of mangoes from Ecuador as a result of the heavy rains. "Ecuador normally ship large quantities to the United States, which is not the case now" the importer explains. "As a result and in comparison less mangoes will be shipped to Europe."
AJB's Fruitbox will also receive slightly less mangoes as well. "With the cooperation of two new exporters they will be reasonably provided."
