Germany: Stable to increasing carrot prices
The German Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft (AMI) have indicated that the present market situation of carrots in Germany is characterized by stable to increasing prices and somewhat quieter sales. The sales impulse because of Christmas is limited.
As is usual it is difficult to look ahead at the future development of the seasonal sales. In addition not all factors of influence go into the same direction. The German market clearly has lower storage stock than in previous years. Furthermore one has started earlier with processing of the stock from cooling than in other years as fresh carrots were no longer available.
Against this the quantities available for selling were a lot less than previous years. Already in November German households bought 14% less carrots than in the previous year. Also in the second half of December the market has been marked as quiet. In this a role is being played by the large availability and the resulting low prices of many other vegetable varieties.
