Germany: Sale Brussels sprouts stable

The German Brussels sprouts season started in September and reached the peak in November or December. The quantities sold in September and October were clearly in excess of those of last year, as became obvious from figures published by the German Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft (AMI). Many advertising actions held from September and the reasonably low prices have played a role in this. In total Brussels sprouts were on special offer 16 times in September (week 37-39) about as often as in the previous year. The action prices were this year on average lower than in 2010. In 2011 Brussels sprouts on special cost 1,15 euro/kg, whilst last year this was 1,67 euro/kg.

The quantity of Brussels sprouts sold in Germany shows annual fluctuations, the tendency being a slight decrease. Each household in September and October 2011 bought about 23% more Brussels sprouts than last year. In 2009 the quantity sold was still considerably higher. The increase this year is mainly the result of the low sales numbers in 2010/2011.
