China: 1st batch of imported Taiwan pears to go on sale in Xiamen

On 3rd January, the first batch of imported Taiwan pears in Fujian Province arrived at the Dongdu Port, Xiamen. With a total of 10.15 tons, the imported Taiwan pears are worth $44,800, and all of them will be put on sale in Xiamen for the upcoming Spring Festival, reports Xiamen Daily. This is the largest imported volume of Taiwan pears since it gained access to the Chinese market on 14th December, 2011. Pears are the 23rd kind of Taiwan-grown fresh fruit to gain access to the Chinese market, with import tariffs ranging from 10 percent-12 percent.

Xiamen customs has opened special windows to provide priority examines and special inspection services, which effectively shorten the clearance time of the fruit. Taiwan pears are big in size and can weigh about 250g to 750g. It’s not only sweet and juicy, but also rich in vitamin c and other trace elements. Xiamen has become mainland China’s most important distribution center for Taiwan fruits thanks to its geographical advantage and favorable policies. A total of 62.595 million tons of Taiwan fruits were imported from Xiamen Port in the first 11 months last year, accounting for 47.7% of the total imported volume in mainland China.
