During the night of 1st January 2012, a device is exploded in front of a Caulonia-based office of the Cooperative Group GOEL. This place was destined to the insertion of immigrated political refugees attending GOEL welcome projects.The Cooperative Group GOEL manages different welcome projects for political refugees and foreign minors in collaboration with Caulonia municipality and the other municipalities in the area of Locri. Recently GOEL has created an agricultural cooperative in order to aggregate, protect and promote Calabrian farmers who fight against 'ndrangheta (a Calabrian criminal organization similar to the Mafia).
The products, introduced a year ago with the brand "GOEL Bio" and distributed by CTM Altromercato, are distinguished for being Typical and Biological. A fair price is paid to producers-members in order to respect exactly labour rights and to deviate from criminal organizations.
Reasons and addressees are unknown. Apart from the aims of the attack, the Cooperative Group GOEL is more motivated to keep within the law:
- it will continue welcome activities for immigrated to take them away from criminal organizations;
- it will boost "GOEL Bio" activities to create a citrus local market giving a prize to farmers who fight against 'ndrangheta and gloomy exploitation markets;
- it will spread in northern Italy activities against criminal infiltrations;
- it will continue to ignore and despise not-written rules that 'ndrangheta imposes on social and economic level.
