US: United Fresh Produce spent $210K lobbying

The United Fresh Produce Association, which represents farmers, grocers and restaurant chains, spent $210,000 in the third quarter lobbying federal officials about labor, food safety, promotion of fruits and vegetables, Mexican truckers in the U.S. and other industry issues, according to a recent disclosure report.

That is the same amount it spent in the second quarter and last year's second quarter, according to disclosure reports it has filed with Congress.

In addition to Congress, the trade group -- whose members include Safeway Inc., McDonald's Corp. and Kroger Co. -- lobbied the FDA, the Departments of State, Agriculture and Labor and other entities in July through September, according to the report it filed with the House clerk's office.
