Wendy's adds mechanism to check conduct of produce suppliers
The code initially covered companies that supply food, paper and packaging to Wendy's and its independent supply-chain company, Quality Supply Chain Cooperative.
The update adds about 100 suppliers and now covers "all U.S. and Canadian contracts managed by Quality Supply Chain Cooperative and suppliers that provide a significant stream of goods or services to The Wendy's Company on an annual basis," according to a press release.
The code requires suppliers to obey all laws and act responsibly. Wendy's is adding a mechanism to check on the conduct of its suppliers of fresh produce and how they treat their workers.
"The code will also require third-party reviews related to the human-rights and labor practices of these suppliers," Wendy's said in a press release. "The decision to add third-party reviews was due in part to the nature of agricultural work, its workforce, and an evaluation of various risk factors."
