EU agricultural exports broke records in 2016

The total value for EU agri-food exports reached new levels in 2016, hitting €130.7 billion, up €1.7 billion on 2015, according to the latest figures from the European Commission.

The biggest increases in annual exports were to the USA (up €1.26 billion) and China (up €1.06 billion).

Other major gains in EU agri-food exports were in Asian countries, such as Japan (€414m; +8%), Vietnam (€348m; +32%) and Korea (€230m; +10%). At the same time, the figures show that the value of EU agri-food imports fell 1.5% to €112 billion.

The agri-food sector accounted for 7.5% of total EU exports in goods in 2016, and 6.6% of all imported goods are agri-food products, according to the Commission.
