Trump to pick Sonny Perdue as next secretary of agriculture

Following predictions, Donald Trump will name Sonny Perdue III, former governor of Georgia as the next U.S. secretary of agriculture. Perdue will replace Tom Vilsack, said two anonymous insiders. The decision follows talks held between Trump and Perdue regarding agriculture on Nov 30 which sparked further rumors of Perdue being Trump's choice.

"Sonny will work hard to advance smart agriculture policies that will help our farmers, ranchers, and rural communities across the country,” Senator David Perdue, a Republican from Georgia and the nominee’s cousin, said in a statement. “I could not be more proud of my cousin."

Perdue is in a difficult position however, as many farmers are upset at a few of Trump's ambitions, including immigration reform and his stance on free trade agreements. With future access to migrant labor unknown and the possible abandonment of trade agreements, some farmers are uncertain about their future.
