Fresh produce importer gives back

Since its creation three years ago, the Los Angeles-based nonprofit “A Sense of Home” (ASOH) has provided youths who’ve aged out of the county’s foster care system with three life necessities: a home, a support system and a future. ASOH’s dedication to preserve hope for the nearly two-thousand L.A. County youths who leave state care each year is why J&K Fresh and the Keffer family are honored to have sponsored ASOH since its inception, and continue our sponsorship through this holiday season to the deserving ASOH community.

As ASOH has steadily grown, so has its need for additional space. J&K Fresh Vice President Raymond Keffer stepped in and worked diligently with Cal Cartage Companies to secure a ten-thousand square foot warehouse ASOH now uses to store all its donations and use as office space. The acquisition has allowed ASOH to close down all of its storage units and provide jobs to the same young men and women it works tirelessly to reach.

During the holidays for the past three years J&K Fresh has teamed with ASOH to spread holiday cheer. This year we assisted in a home makeover, gave over $4,000 in gift cards and surprised a young man with two season tickets to the 2017 USC Trojans football season.” In previous years, J&K Fresh has given families gift baskets, provided youths with Christmas gifts and blessed a couple with a love token for their wedding.

To date, ASOH and its Co-Founder Georgie Smith have furnished homes and created a sense of community for nearly 150 Los Angeles youths. Smith’s efforts earned her recognition as a 2016 top 10 finalist for “CNN’s Heroes.” Her service and the organization’s mission are truly inspiring. We at J&K Fresh are excited to continue partnering with ASOH to ensure our next generation has access to the resources they need to achieve the success they deserve.
