Polish apple prices on the rise
According to Anna Gabler, Agro Queens co-owner; "I think that contrary to popular belief, the quality of many of the apples on the market are not as good as many had expected at the beginning of the season. I even feel that the panic has given many companies the opportunity to purchase apples for storage at lower prices, enabling them to sell them at a later date with good profits. When the price is at the minimum level, as it has been, it can only increase. This is what we have been seeing at the moment, and prices have been increasing."
A relatively new company, but not without experience, Agro Queens was born from a common goal amongst the owners. With a background of years of experience working in a large company trading in fruit and vegetables, Anna said that she found that she shared her business partner's vision of business development.
"Agro Queens is a result of combining experience, passion, involvement and friendship. My partner is a producer and has led the family business for many years. In the face of intense competition, I believe that small companies with relatively low production costs, perhaps opposed to general opinion, will be valuable for customers who are looking for trust and quality over the next few years." shared Anna.
The company's main product is fresh apples, with their own production and packhouse. They also supply summer fruits and full range of polish vegetables, which they believe are valuable and still competitive on western markets.
"We are committed to long-term relationships. Our main customers are Poland's neighbouring countries, however, the market continues to develop and we still need to orient ourselves with new customers and their growing requirements. Our furthest export destination is India, and we are not afraid of new challenges." according to Anna.
As part of its development and changing to meet developing demands, especially to those outside of Europe, the company has been working on increasing their organic offering for fresh, as well as frozen and processed fruit and veg.
"We are currently in a project that aims to encourage producers to switch their production from conventional to organic. Growers, in general, have been afraid of the unknown, and are still lacking in education and government grants, as well as the guarantee of receiving good returns. We we need to help them realise that, despite lower yields, the cost of organic production is cheaper than conventional, with good returns." concludes Anna.
