This summer promises to be challenging for Ukrainian fruit consumers

Ukraine cannot avoid the influence of external factors on the cost of fruits in the country. This summer promises to be challenging for Ukrainian fruit consumers. As a result of Russia's occupation of parts of southern regions, Ukrainians have lost access to early vegetables, sweet cherries, and watermelons.

However, all is not lost. The industry is developing in other non-occupied regions, and sweet cherries will be available on the market as domestic and imported. As for the forecast for prices for this type of stone fruit, it all depends on the weather conditions in the second half of spring. Analysts indicate that adverse weather conditions will increase the cost of strawberry cultivation.

Inflation is another factor that affects the cost of fruits in Ukraine. According to data from the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, in March 2023, the rise in prices for food products compared to March 2022 amounted to 26.8%. Prices for fruits have risen by 44.9%, and for vegetables - by 38.3%. It is predicted that inflation in Ukraine in 2023 may be around 20%, and the price of fruits will rise faster than other goods.

Therefore, the influence of the Russian occupation, adverse weather conditions, and inflation will affect the cost of fruits in Ukraine this summer. However, there is no shortage of fruits expected, as the shortfall will be covered by imports.
